Rye Demolition Wins Second Environmental Award of the Year

- 04/07/22

On Thursday 23rd June, Rye Demolition Ltd was awarded the Best Green Initiative Award at Hill Group’s inaugural Supply Chain Awards evening. The event was held at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London and was hosted by comedian Rob Beckett.

The evening was held to recognise the outstanding achievements and resilience of Hill’s suppliers over recent years and to pay tribute to the innovation and progression in key areas of the industry.

Rye Demolition was presented with the Best Green Initiative award in recognition of its outstanding commitment to improving its environmental impact through key initiatives. This award follows on from another environmental industry award presented to Rye earlier in 2022.

Rye Demolition transferred its entire fleet of plant and machinery to HVO, replacing diesel, thus eliminating in the region of 1,700 tonnes of CO2Ee. They have committed to purchasing 600,000 litres of HVO fuel over the next year, allowing them to transition, not only their site plant and machinery, but also road vehicles, away from diesel.

Rye uses HVO that is made from used cooking oil, giving second life to waste materials manufactured for other purposes, leaving captured carbon, in the form of oil, in the ground. Rye was the first SME demolition firm to make the wholesale switch to HVO and is proud to support other companies in making the switch.

In addition to the switch to HVO, Rye Demolition has committed to a Sustainable Standard framework, that challenges them to make a positive impact wherever they work, under five key pillars; Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality, People and Community.

Initiatives include conducting carbon audits, ongoing investment in modern plant, machinery and technology, extensive training, investment in local communities and charity work.

These initiatives are the key reasons why Rye Demolition was presented with this award.

Simon Barlow, Managing Director of Rye Group said:

“We are delighted to be presented with this award in recognition of our ongoing efforts. It is our second environmental award of the year and validates the huge effort and investment we are making to improve our sustainability credentials.

To be recognised by a supplier is, in many ways, even more satisfying than receiving an industry award because it proves that our work is making a difference to the clients and communities we serve. We thank Hill Group for its recognition of our work.

You can be sure that our efforts will continue in this field.”
